Always find beauty in things that seem odd and imperfect, they are much more interesting.~ Marc Jacobs

“Hey please take a pic of me in this outfit,” me

“Am not in the mood!!” friend

walks away with a fake smile on the face

Ever been in a situation where you just want to take a pic but there is just no one to at least fake to be your photographer  for even 2 seconds? Yeah, that’s what am talking about. If I were to count how many times I have been in such situations trust me the sun rays would hit me while am still on my count.

Whoever invented the flatlays must have been in a situation where they wanted to display their items in a creative and beautiful way. Am sure you have definitely come across them in the social media especially in Instagram and in the magazines too.  I love flatlays and I just thought of sharing a few tips with you on how to achieve that beautiful flatlays.

  1. Have a theme in mind

This is all about the central message that you want to deliver through your images. Have an idea of what it is you want your followers to have in mind the moment they look at that image.

2.Maximize on a neutral background

The more neutral it is the better so that one can be able to have a maximum view and analysis of whatever it is you are displaying. Personally I use white backgrounds where I just lay the items on a white bed sheet and sometimes I use a throw. You can also use the back of posters or even the back of a calendar which are actually way much affordable.

3. Seize the daylight

Natural light is the best to use when taking your flatlays and also make sure it is not too harsh to avoid shadows and shades of colours in your items.

4.Make sure your items are in perfect condition

Ensure that your pieces are clean and that they are not creased. This is because those things will definitely get to be seen in your picture hence reducing it’s  quality

5.Create a full look

You can do this by choosing two or three main pieces of your outfit and complete with little accessories to get a clean picture.

6. Make it look easy

Don’t train to make it look too perfect such as a display in a boutique. Make it something people can easily relate with.

8. Play with the space

One is limited to small space so it is better to try and balance larger items with smaller items to make the image look up to scale.

9. Accessorize

We accessorize our outfits so as to bring out the beauty in them. The same applies for flatlays, think outside the limited space and add some items such as flowers, rings, sunglasses, watches, books and even folks. Get creative with whatever it is that you think will make the flatlay emerge beautifully.

10. Use a step stool

This implies you will be on a higher level hence you will be able to capture all items perfectly and include everything.

11. Camera used

Whether you are using your phone or not, just make sure it will be able to project the pictures clearly.

12. Make use of editing apps

This will enable you to clean out and perfect your shot.

13.Go ahead and share  your hard work in social media

Will be waiting to see the results 😉
